Weekly update!

Hey Lovers!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was hectic to say the least, but so awesome!

In NAIL SCHOOL, it was finals week....we had our Theory finals on Tuesday, and Practical on Thursday.

SO THAT ONLY MEANS ONE THING!

One more week of school, THEN I'M OFFICIALLY DONE!

(caps lock for excitement)

Also, on the weekend, I sang with a bunch of lovely talented people.

Naked Tribal ft. Fundraiser Night!

Hello ladies...and maybe gentlemen??

HAPPY FRIDAY!

My nail school had a fundraiser/open house yesterday and we were offering basic polish and nail art!

I wanted to wear something simple on my nails...but things escalated quickly...and next thing you know I ended up with these..... 

This is just acrylic paint with glitter and clear gel polish over top.

I would say that they're rather simple? They just look complicated...hahaha

I find it really hard to look at my nails because they're so short....it's almost awkward not having claws....

...The Fundraiser...

I lucked out last night! All my clients were THANKFULLY all very adventurous!

The sentence "Just do whatever you want!" was thrown around a lot...and that's just how I like it.

This mani was my first and FAVOURITE of the night...

Because I am Winnie. It only made sense that I forget to pack sponges with me...

but this awesome lady requested galaxy and roses on her nails so excitedly, I had to make it happen....

You guys. I did a set of galaxy nails WITHOUT sponges!

I used my fingers to dab on the "galaxy" elements...some of the nails look like EARTH!!

All in all, it was a very fun night. I had a great time, and managed to hand out 2 business cards!

By the way,

I finally found some "above knuckle" rings on ebay....I am in love with them....

Really, they're toe rings....but it's essentially the same thing...and for $2...I'm not complaining! ^_^

Hello lovers!!

Before we begin, I'd like to give you the BIGGEST virtual hug known to mankind and wish you a very happy 2013!! Hope everyone had a good holiday, and indulged in copious amount of NOMS!

On December 27th, I was named 2012's Best Self Taught Nail Artist on Jezebel.

I couldn't believe it when I found out...and I may or may not have done this stupid crazy dance of joy and tripped and rolled on my ankle then cried a little.

So here's my acceptance speech:

I am humbled and extremely honoured to be even mentioned in this article, as many of the nail artists I look up to are also featured. I want to express my gratitude to those who helped me every step of the way...

Without you, I'd just be this crazy person that likes to put crazy things on her nails.

Mehndi Inspired Mani + Nail School Update

HELLO LOVES!!

It's been a week since we last saw each other! I hope your week was awesome.

Today I have a Mehndi inspired mani for you.

What does Mehndi look like?

According to Wikipedia:

Mehndi, also known as Henna tattoos, is another form of temporary tattoo. Coming from a south Asian tradition, henna uses a paste made from the powdered leaves of the Henna plant, Lawsonia inermis. Traditional henna is drawn in delicate patterns on the hands and feet, but modern henna is applied in all sorts of designs anywhere on the body. Henna tattoos can last days to over a month depending on application and aftercare.

I used Orly's Ingenue and white acrylic paint for this look.

I was trolling the discontinued bin at my local beauty supply store the other day and found this pretty little thing...I was never really an Orly fan...because for whatever reason, I always seem to end up with a bottle with crappy brush...but when I saw this I knew I had to rescue it from being sent back to factory.

LOL at least that's what I believe they do...yes...let's just go with that!

Surprisingly, the brush wasn't faulty!!

This polish applied smoothly unlike all my other Orly polishes. 

Ingue is a wine coloured sheer polish packed with fine gold sparkles.

Unfortunately, this polish didn't look so great on me. But I would imagine it look amazing on someone with a lighter complexion?

Although I thought this polish for a Mehndi inspired mani was appropriate, because the Indian culture is full of beautiful, rich colours such as this polish.

I know this mani is no where near the amount of details on an actual Mehndi...but I wanted to see if it was doable, and of course it was!

I think I will attempt this again and include more details, with a darker colour.

*Nail School Update*

So it's been officially a month yesterday since I started Nail School!

I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not, but I feel like I've been in school longer than that?! haha

Here's a brief summary of what's happened thus far:

We had homework everyday...and tests every OTHER day....

We had to do crosswords and word searches, and I discovered that I look like 12.....still.

We learned how to properly set up our manicure station, and I experienced my first MAN-icure

 

...and of course, we learned about properly disinfecting implements...so important!

This week, I performed my first official manicure for a walk-in client while the class (11 people) observed. The client was nice enough to tip me $2 dolla!! I'm RICH!! :D

Lastly, just yesterday, I did a manicure on the set of hands that matters most! My MAMA <3

Egypt Inspired Mani & Nail School Wk 1

Hello loves! HAPPY FRIDAY!

As you know, I started my Nail Technology program this week...

So I thought I'd share my weekly experience with you!

This week, we covered topics like history, and time management skills.

We were assigned an essay about how the ancient civilization affected the world of Cosmetology.

I picked the Egyptians-- hence today's mani!

Long story short, red nails were popular, they really loved themselves, and Cleopatra is awesome.

I know I'm so great at essays. lol.

For this mani-

I used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Guilty Pleasure and All Fired Up. As well as Rimmel London's Black Satin, and acrylic paint for the rest.

Skill-wise, we practised on polish application...

Apparently when you do the certifying exam, you have to paint VERY CLOSE to the cuticles...

This is news to me as I often leave at least 1mm on all edges...call it personal preference?

Anyway! I have to work on perfecting this skill because I have to be PRO!

We also started doing French Manicures! 

It feels good to learn things the proper way 

:)
